Welcome to Essential Sports & Remedial Therapy, the starting place for your journey of healing.
Our bodies are astounding feats of evolution that allow for fluid, free movement when functioning correctly.
Unfortunately due to injury and modern lifestyles this is not always the case.
Having personally experienced a major road traffic accident, I embarked on a journey of repairing and restoring my body's function with the aid of a remedial therapy professional.
I qualified as a remedial therapist with the National School for Remedial Therapy in 2018 and am proud to work with those who need help with their injuries and body mechanic problems.
Essential Sports & Remedial Therapy caters for all soft tissue injury and body mechanic problems including:
Sports Injuries
Chronic Pain
Hip, Back & Neck Pain
Sciatica
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Golfer's and Tennis Elbow
Hamstring Injuries
Lifting Injuries
Repetitive Strain Injuries
Shoulder Disfunction

Every injury is unique and will require an assessment at the beginning of each treatment. Correct function of the affected limb and surrounding body mechanics including strength and range of movement are examined.
When used with correct technique and pressure, massage treatment can relax and soften the muscles involved in your injury. It can help to realign your muscle fibres too.
When we stretch our muscles, the more elastic muscle fibres tend to stretch more than our thick, fibrous tendons. This can limit the effectiveness of the stretch and the movement of the affected joint. With Soft Tissue Release techniques, your tendons are stretched independently of the muscle fibres. This can be done with assistance from your therapist or as an assigned exercise as part of your treatment. This can give your muscle fibres an opportinity to relax as there is less tension in the structure as a whole.
A trigger point is a hypersensitive bundle of fibres within a muscle that can cause localised or referred pain and discomfort. Trigger Point Therapy involves massage and specific pressure applied to the area to improve the texture of the affected muscle fibres. Knowledge of the referred pain patterns caused by trigger points is essential to reducing overall pain.
Dry Needling involves the insertion of thin filament needles into Trigger Points in the muscles to release the tension and restore normal function. It can relieve pain and improve range of motion of the affected joint.
Electrical Stimulation can also be applied to improve muscle tone.
Dry Needling is only used in cases where the client is comfortable with the use of needles.
Muscle Energy Techniques take advantage of the body's mechanisms for naturally relaxing muscles. This creates a window of opportunity where the muscles can be stretched to a greater range of movement. This reduces tension in the muscle structure as a whole.
The Kinesio Taping method can be used to encourage muscle relaxation or provide resistance during a paticular action. Additional applications include support for ligaments/joints and creating space for lymph fluid to encourage healing.
Your rehabilitation will include targeted stretching and strengthening exercises to correct postural issues and imbalances in your body mechanics.
